Gibson, Mel (Columcille)
(n. 3 ene. 1956, Peekskill, N.Y, EE.UU.).

Director y actor de cine australiano nacido en EE.UU. Se trasladó con su familia a Australia a la edad de 12 años. Su carrera cinematográfica comenzó en 1977, y posteriormente obtuvo el rol protagónico en la película futurista de acción Mad Max (1979), y sus continuaciones Mad Max, guerrero de la carretera (1981) y Mad Max, más allá de la cúpula del trueno (1985). Se ganó el reconocimiento internacional por sus roles en Gallipoli (1981), El año que vivimos en peligro (1983) y Motín a bordo (1984). Más adelante interpretó al rudo policía en la violenta Arma mortal (1987) y sus capítulos posteriores (1989, 1992, 1998). Dirigió y protagonizó El hombre sin rostro (1993) y Corazón valiente (1995, premio de la Academia por mejor película y mejor director).
